I’m looking at CD covers of Hip Hop artists. This is so that I could get influence on the look of my CD cover. I’m going to look at how CD covers sell the song.
Looking at this cover I think the mise en scene say something about The Game. He is already a well established Hip Hop artist. The wheels(rims) and the chains he is wearing could be a sign of wealth which is something that a lot of artists like to brag about. He is also topless, and he’s glaring at the camera. He has an intimidating physique and facial expression. The tattoos also tell us that he is an intimidating individual. There aren’t many colour just a black background, this could be telling us how he feeling and what the mood of his music will be like. The Game is looking us right in the eye; direct mode of address.
Looking at these CD covers I have noticed that they are all very simple. They look really good and effortless but a lot of work must have gone into them. They only have three things; the picture of the artist, name of artist and the name of the single/album.
This is another example of a simple yet creative cover. Eminem isn’t even on the front cover of this CD but that is because he isn’t internationally established. There is just a name, picture and album name on this front cover. I’m going to make my CD cover as simple and effective as these examples. Because sometimes less is more.
